This is my first "10 plus". She would not hit a live crawdad,
but I was able to finesse her on a live nightcrawler. I had to crank down my drag to keep her from getting to the submerged trees which you can see behind me. She then broke my rod, but I managed to land her anyway. After this fish, I was totally hooked on the trophy bass thing.

This is perhaps my most outstanding catch. I believe this was my youngest "ten plus". Her eyes were not bugged out at all, (a characteristic of age---not size) and her fins were thin and sharp. This is the classic trout eater. Of all the big bass that I have caught and released, this fish probably has the most potential to get huge. By the way, she fought very spastically, typical of a younger fish, and cleared the water by at least three ft. on the first jump! She hit a live dad in about 15 ft of water.

Contrary to what an angler might think, although this is my shortest, thickest "ten plus", it was also my strongest fighter. She made three runs back to back, and at one point had over 100 ft. of line off of my reel !

Yours truly, with a trophy Clear Lk. bass, which was caught on an offshore rockpile, with a live dad. This fish had been tagged by the Ca. DFG in April of 95, when she weighed 4.99 lbs. So in only four years and four months she grown 6 lbs and 7 oz, or about a pound and a half a year. The Ca. DFG said this was very good growth, but not unheard of. She hit a live dad.

This is the only "ten plus" that I ever caught after dark and also the only one that did not have a big belly on her. She was caught on a live dad at 9 pm.

I finally got a "ten plus" in 2000.......I was beginning to wonder. I caught her on a live dad, of course, in about 5 feet of water.

My biggest bass so far in 2000 ! And my biggest ever on an artificial. She railed the Castaic Trout with only about 3 ft of line off of the end of my rod, and me looking off in the other direction ! She just about ripped the rod out of my hands !
And the most amazing thing is......I have caught this fish before ! Please see the latest update to,

I finally got my first double digit bass for 2001. This Lk. Berryessa beauty went 11 lb 3 oz. She hit a live dad in about 5 ft of water. I briefly hooked this fish first thing in the morning, but she got me around some brush and came unbuttoned. Then at about 2:30 pm she gave me another chance, and that was all it took !

The day after the fish above (the photo above this photo) was caught, I got this 11 lb 3 ouncer ! This one was caught at Lk. Chabot Ca. on a Castaic trout lure. Just a flawless beauty !
This same day I got a 9 lb 10 oz bass.......Great fish, but it doesn't quite make the qualifications for the site. Oh well, I'm not complaining !
