Misc.  Fish Photos  pg 1

This is a domesticated Goldfish, estimated weight 5 lbs, which I accidentally foul hooked at Shadow Cliffs Res. Ca. while bass fishing. I have also caught several wild strain Goldfish (mostly on nightcrawlers) which have much less color and a very small tail and fins.
Most wild strain Goldfish which are caught on a rod and reel are mistakenly identified as a common Carp, which although are very closely related, are in fact a seperate species.
Catch and Release a Trophy Goldfish :-)

This is Rick Riedle with an awesome trophy Steelhead which weighed 18 lb 5 oz and was 38" long ! Rick caught the monster in the San Lorenzo River, Ca.
Landing a fish like this in moving water on light gear is one heck of a feat ! Good job buddy !

Check out this 40 pound Black Bass !!! Okay, so it's not a Largemouth, but In-Fisherman does rate the New Guinea Black Bass as one of the toughest freshwater fish that swims !

This is a huge carp which I foul hooked in the tail, while bass fishing at San Pablo Dam Res. It drug my 12 ft. aluminum around for about 45 minutes ! My spring scale said 23 lbs (my digital only went to 15 lbs)........ If you think it looks bigger than that, well my buddy and I thought so too ! By the way, it was released, as a trophy sport fish like this should be !

OK, now this one went 23.8 lbs on my "calibrated"  Berkeley digital scale, and was caught by being hooked in the lip.......... albeit I was actually fishing for catfish :-) No doubt a trophy Golden Sportfish though !

This is Kirk Sakamoto with the former World record, 9 lb 9.6 oz "Spotted bass" ??? Yes, the Ca.DFG did examine this fish, and considered it to be a Spotted bass ! Sure looks like a Smallmouth to me.
In any case, congratulations to Kirk on an awesome trophy catch, no matter how you cut it !

Smallmouth ? Largemouth ? Rich Fry's  8 lb 7 oz bass is a hybrid, apparently the largest ever caught. By the way, the story on this fish was first published by In-Fisherman magazine .......... the best multi-species fishing publication on the planet !

This is Ryan, the young trophy bass pro, from the San Francisco bay area, with a humongus Rainbow trout, which he caught from Lk. Chabot ! No........this is not a Salmon, it is a Rainbow, which weighed a whopping 13 lbs. !!!

This is a massive 5 lb. Georgia Giant sunfish !!!
It measured 15" long, 3 1/2 " thick, and 12" tall !
This fish was bred by Ken Holyoak of Ken's  Hatchery and Fish Farms, Inc.  You can contact Ken's Hatchery by calling, 912-532-6135

This is Mitch Looper from Arkansas with one of the biggest northern strain largemouth bass ever caught in the history of bass fishing! The monster weighed an incredible 14.41 lbs!!! (14 lb 6 oz)
Mitch is a 100% Catch and Release angler,  and had full intentions of releasing this fish as well. However, unfortunately, this fish could not handle the stresses of the catch, and Mitch was forced to keep it.
The reason I am posting this (other than the fact that it is an absolutely huge Northern strain bass !) is to point out, that very big / old bass, can not handle stress like a smaller, more youthful fish. This is a very important thing to keep in mind, when you finally get that fish of a lifetime.
Mitch was also under pressure to have some photos taken by his sponsors, but he says now, that had he known the eventual outcome, he would have just released the fish right then, photos or not.
I feel your pain Mitch..........The 12-5 I caught a little while ago was a close one, and quite honestly, I can't say that she made it for sure. I did not have her out of the water too long, but she took some time to get uprighted and swimming off on her own.  Where as a smaller fish would not have had any problem.
The lesson here ??? We need to remember that these fish are senior citizens, and should be treated as such ! Just have your camera and scale ready and you can look at the photos later, for as long as you want to !!! chuckles
