Why Do We Fish ?
by  "Fish Chris"
Ahhhh, now here is a question which I have probably been asked a thousand  times, and I think I have a very good answer....... it works for me anyway.
First let me say, I have very strong spiritual beliefs, and I also believe in evolution. Where the two connect, I am not sure, but I do believe we will find out on "the day". I usually keep this stuff to myself though, unless somebody asks.
Anyway, since the beginning of time, man has had to provide for himself and his family. Catching a fish or killing an animal was a "very good thing" which meant that he was not going to starve.      Today a man prides himself at bringing home a paycheck to support the family, but back then it was fish and game.
Pole doubled over, drag ripping, and adrenaline pumping full blast ! The phrase, "Unless your a fisherman, you just wouldn't understand" certainly applies here !
Of course nowadays if we are hungry, we can just go to the grocery store, or quicker yet McD's, but it has been ingrained in our subconscious, evolving minds for so many thousands of years, that we just can't shake it....... even if most "normal" people (read: people other than myself :-) are not in touch with why fishing makes them feel the way it does.
Releasing your catch
Non-fisherman often ask me, "Why do you release your fish" ? My answer....... "Because catching the fish proves that I could have eaten it if I wanted to. I've already won that game. Besides all of that, do I look like I am starving" ?

The trophy hunting cat
C.C. (Cool Cat) knows what trophy hunting is all about !
There is a “self-owning” cat which hangs out around here often. In fact this darn thing usually sweet talks me out of $5 a lb deli sliced lunch meat ! Does he have his  humans trained or what ? But even so, if he gets a chance, he will kill a mouse or a bird, and then drag it to the front door, with his head held high, to show off his trophy catch.  He is so darn proud of himself it's just too funny ! And ya' know what ? I can totally relate to how he feels. Now we already know he is not starving, but just as with humans, I think it is comforting for him to know, that if he had to, he could eat that catch.

Whatever makes you happy....... Just do it !!!
Peace,
Fish Chris
